My God – A “show-off”? by Joey Cruz

 March 31st, 2008

Yesterday, while my family and I were walking to church, it was snowing.  As we stopped at a “Don’t Walk” signal, I raised my arm a bit to catch some snow and have a closer look at it with my wife by my side.  With a smile on my face I told her, “’Nagpapasikat’ na naman ang Panginoon…”  (“God is ‘showing-off’ again”…)

Many people are probably cursing or dismayed by the first snowfall of the spring.  It shouldn’t be snowing anymore but that has happened almost every year.  By this time, people are ‘sick’ of it because it’s another day of shoveling, the roads are wet/slippery, we have to wear warmer clothes again, you just had your car washed, etc.

Have you ever tried standing outside every time it snows and have a better look at this white thing that falls from the sky?  Every little ‘speck’ or tiny piece is almost different from each other.  Sometimes it’s like what I hear as ‘wet snow’: it looks like snow as it falls down but when it lands, it turns to water really quick.  Sometimes, it’s almost like tiny grains of sand: you can actually hear it every time it hits your coat or garment.  Sometimes, they’re bundled together but falls so lightly that they look like daffodils floating on air.

My favorite is just like what my wife and I saw yesterday where you can actually see the shape of every snowflake.  I find it hard to even sketch or copy every detail that each snowflake has.  Plus, it is so small and so thin that when you touch it, it melts almost in an instant.   How could a drop of water that evaporated to the clouds fall down and look like this tiny work of art?  Isn’t God amazing?  I’ve been here in Canada for 5 years and I still can’t help but to wonder like a little boy whenever I see snow.

Next time it snows, take a closer look at how our Lord “shows-off” His power.  Think about it, if He has time to make such a wondrous thing like this that disappears in a few seconds, how much more do you think He values His most important creation – You!

“Look at the birds in the air; they do not sow or reap… and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them, Are you not much more valuable than they?”  (Matthew 6:26)
