Something Is Missing by Pastor Denzel Fenn

The late Princess Diana once said in addressing a large crowd – “Something is missing.” She had wealth, fame, power and beauty. She could afford to go any place or buy anything, but her own admission, that was not enough and “Something was missing.” Solomon had uttered those words centuries before – “Something is missing.” He reviewed his life and his accomplishments and cried, “Empty – it’s all empty!” Something is missing! What a surprising statement from him. He was the most powerful monarch of his time. He had wealth beyond imagination. He possessed unusual wisdom and his fame had spread abroad. He had unlimited supply of beautiful women. He was exceptionally creative and innovative. Looking from a distance one would think that he lacked for nothing. But when he wrote his son a letter and reflected over his life he said, “It’s empty – something is missing.”

Princess Diana and Solomon were speaking for many in our city. We are, for the most part, wealthy. We are well educated. We drive nice cars and live in fine homes. We have the best food, live in a free country, but “Something is missing.”  We keep hoping that the answer is around the corner or that tomorrow we will find it. It may come in the form of a better job or a new relationship. We are always looking to the future because right now, “Something is missing.”

Perhaps it would be better worded, “Someone is missing.” I believe that what is missing in many lives is God Himself. Augustine wrote. “O God, you have made us for yourself and our souls are restless until they find rest in You.” Augustine had been rich and profligate, but one day he found forgiveness through Jesus Christ.

Jesus put it this way, “Come unto Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) He said, “I have come that they may have life and they may have it more abundantly. “ (John 10:10) We have been created with a vacuum in our lives that only God can fill. So, Solomon wrote his son, urging him not to live as he did but give God the supreme place in his life. He said, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth.” (Ecclesiastes 12:1)

Something missing? Try God! He may be the answer you are looking for.
