When All Else Fails by Pastor Denzel Fenn

A wise person once said – when all else fails read the directions.  It is time for Canadians to read the directions.  The directions are in the Bible.

In the past, one of our leading political leaders stated that in view of the violence in our schools, we were going to have to come up with a set of standards and parameters to guide our conduct toward one another.  I agree.

Actually we had some.  They were given by God to the nation of Israel a few thousand years ago.  They were meant to be the foundation of society.  They were the rules of conduct.  They were called the Ten Commandments.  Not ten suggestions but ten commandments.

But in the name of enlightenment, flexibility and freedom, our nation has set them aside as obsolete.  As a result, we find ourselves on a slippery slope.

The darkest period of the nation of Israel is described in the Book of Judges.  For four hundred years there was bondage, bloodshed, and anarchy.  The nation had lost its moorings.  The law of God had been set aside and repeatedly it is recorded “there was no king (no authority) and every man did what was right in his own eyes.

We too, have been taught that there are no moral absolutes.  The current philosophy is that if it feels good, do it.  If it’s right for you, then it’s right.  What utter nonsense.  And now we are reaping the harvest.

Our nation has become dangerous.  It’s dangerous for the unborn child.  It’s now dangerous for our children at schools.  It’s dangerous on the streets.  We have alarm systems to protect us in our homes from outside danger but we have no protection from the violence inside so many of our homes.  Clearly something is wrong.

We have neglected the Book of directions.  That’s why we are lost.  The guardrails at the edge of the precipice have been removed.  In the name of tolerance, we have evicted God from our schools.  We have diluted His law in our courts.  We thought we were wise enough to chart our own course.  It has brought us to the brink of disaster.  It is time to repent and to return to God and the Bible.  God has promised us that if we would do that He would heal our land.  We are desperately and urgently in need of healing in Canada.

Jesus addressed this issue in a parable He told about the building of two homes.  This is pertinent to us for we too are building our lives, our homes and our nation.  In this parable there was a wise man and a foolish man.  We are either wise or foolish.  The wise man built his house upon a rock foundation.  The foolish man built his house upon the sand.  The storm came then and it’s coming again now.  The wise man’s house withstood the assault while the foolish man’s house collapsed.

Jesus explained the parable and said, “therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man that built his house upon a rock.  But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.” (Matthew 7:24, 26)

When all else fails – read the rules – and follow the directions.  They are in the Bible.

Our nation was founded on the principles of the Ten Commandments.  It was in the heart of those founders that “He Would Have Dominion from Sea to Sea.”  It is time to return to our foundations.

Only God can save our land and keep us free.
