Heaven by Pastor Denzel Fenn

Now that I’m getting older I think quite a bit about heaven.  By the grace of God and the forgiveness of Jesus I plan to spend eternity there.

My parents and a lot of my friends are already there and I look forward to seeing them again.

Many people dismiss heaven as a figment of our imagination.  Others call it a crutch for the mind to get us through the tough times.

But on a good authority we know that heaven exists.  Jesus, who cam from there, and returned there, is the source of our information.

He called heaven a real place.  He told the disciples, “I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2) He called this place, “The Father’s house.”  The Father’s house is the children’s home.  Someone wrote a song reminding us that, “We’re Not Home Yet.”  The Bible reminds us that we are but strangers and pilgrims and we are awaiting a city whose builder and maker is God.

The Psalmist; in the beloved 23rd Psalm wrote, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

The last book of the Bible describes heaven - John who wrote it almost seemed at a loss of words.  He described heaven as a place of unparalleled beauty.  This world, though blasted by sin for thousands of years, has some place so beautiful that words cannot describe.  But heaven will never be marred by sin and as the hymn writer wrote, “There’s a land that is fairer than day and by faith we can see it afar.”  Or as another wrote, “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be!”

Heaven will be missing many of the things that mar earth here.  Life has been good for many of us but from time to time the dark clouds of sickness, pain and death, roll in.  We are not strangers to tears and sorrows and often pain grips our bodies and our spirits.

Heaven will be free from all of this.  Listen to John’s words, “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.”  Revelation 21:4

But the best thing about heaven is that we will be with Jesus.  He said, “I go to prepare a place for you … that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:3)  John wrote, “They shall see His face.” (Rev. 22:4).  I look forward to seeing the faces of my parents and friends but most of all to see the face of Jesus.

So the question is “How does one get to heaven?”  One of the disciples asked Jesus that same question.  Jesus answered, “I am the way”. (John 14:6)

And He is still the only way.  You cannot earn your way to heaven by good works.  So come to Jesus.  Confess your sins and receive Him as your personal Savior and He will become your way to heaven.
